SUBARU Telescope Mirror Project
Daily Express successfully
completed the North American intermodal transportation of the SUBARU mirror telescope
lens. The mirror blank as transported measured 31' wide and long by 11' high,
weighed 150,000lbs and moved by truck and barge from the Corning Glass Co., Canton, NY to
the Port of New Orleans, LA with a final destination of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The
telescope will begin operation in 1999 at the summit of Mauna Kea at an altitude of 13,580
feet.
SERVING THE WIND POWER INDUSTRY
Each week Daily delivers wind turbine generators, tower sections and blades throughout North America to increase wind-energy capacity. Generator shipments weigh up to 165,000 lbs., tower sections are 36 – 80’ long and up to 13’11” diameter and blades are 144’ in length. All shipments involve the use of multiple rail trailers, steerable rear ends, and drivers considered among the most qualified in America.
